Ivy (Hedera helix).

A Rare Pair of Thomas Webb Three Colour English Cameo Glass Vases,

the white and green overlay cut through to yellow with trailing ivy leaves and flower sprays, the reverse with butterflies, the rims cut with delicate banding,

Victorian, circa 1889

25cm (9 3/4in) high.

It is thought that a certain amount of 'artistic licence' has been taken with the flowing part of the Ivy, a far prettier flower has been inserted rather than the common 'ball' form of the true Ivy flower.

In the ' Language of Flowers'  Ivy represents Fidelity, Friendship and Marriage.

It is likely that these vases would have been purchased to celebrate a wedding anniversary or birthday.
